Housing Accommodations for Senior Couples

February 23 2018

Housing Accommodations for Senior CouplesWhen you are a couple and begin the search for senior living, you will have to take into consideration the needs of yourself as well as your partner so that you will be able to stay together, rather than having to live in separate facilities.

Senior Apartments

When you are a couple and want to remain together, then you may want to consider the advantages of senior apartments. Senior apartments are for people that are fifty-five years of age and older and they typically do not offer much in the way of amenities or assistance with health-related issues.

However, these age restricted communities will usually offer an array of different activities that allow for better socializing opportunities with other residents. Senior apartments are also an ideal choice for the senior couple that wishes to live and maintain a very healthy and active lifestyle.

Continuing Care Retirement Communities

Continuing Care Retirement Communities, or CCRC’s, are able to offer seniors health related assistance from private homes, independent living facilities, and assisted living and offer senior couples to continue to live in comfort where they wish without having to relocate and risk separation from their partners.

Independent Living Facilities

If you are a couple and are living in an independent living facility, then you are able to experience the benefits and advantages of having a private residence, without having to worry about any maintenance that would need to be done.

Independent living communities typically offer their residents dining options, transportation, housekeeping, and even access to social activities. For an independent living community, the couple usually pays a monthly fee or rental amount for their residence and may even charge a small fee for having a second person to help cover the expense of the meals and other services that are provided to the couple.

Choosing Senior Housing

When choosing the best senior housing facility for yourself and your partner, take into consideration the amount of care you will each need as well as the costs that are associated when living as a couple.

You should also take a close look at the type of amenities you would each like to have access to as well as the amount you are willing to pay for these amenities and other convenient and offered services.

Assisted living facilities will also likely charge extra depending on the level of healthcare and assistance you or your partner will need. If you feel that you will not need this help, then senior apartments may be the best solution.
