Additionally, this is easier to do if you are able to plan your meals for the week ahead of time.
Minimize the Amount of Salt Being Used
As you age, you may find that your taste senses aren’t as strong as they used to be, and this may cause you to want to over season your food. However, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has found that increased salt usage can lead to high blood pressure that can lead to heart disease, stroke, and even kidney disease. Sodium intake should be limited to under 2,300 milligrams daily.

Another helpful, healthy eating tip is to pay attention to the nutrient labels. Packaged and canned foods especially can be packed full of fat and sodium, so you will want to read all the labels carefully to get a better idea of what you are eating.
Choose Healthy Fats
It is never good to completely cut all forms of fat from your diet. However, you should eliminate saturated fat and trans fat and focus more on healthy fats that can help protect your body against disease and illness. Foods high in omega-3 fatty acids including olive oil, avocado, and nuts are all good and healthy snack choices.
While eating healthy foods like fruits and vegetables are important, you should also talk to your doctor about introducing supplements into your diet as well to round out your nutrition. Supplemental vitamins can help ensure you are getting all the vitamins and minerals your body needs to help keep you in optimal health.
