Making Smartphones and Technology More Accessible to SeniorsSenior citizens are one part of the population that we find don't always engage in the technology that is available today. However, times are changing and so are smartphones, and we are finding them becoming much more accessible to senior citizens.

The Benefits of a Smartphone

There are several benefits to having a smartphone. Whether it's making emergency phone calls, video chatting with family and friends, or even just checking the weather many seniors are finding the good that comes with these handy devices.
Choosing the right smartphone involves taking a closer look at these benefits as well as other things you wish to be able to do on the phone. From a basic phone to one with more features, there is something for everyone.

Choosing a Flip Phone

Flip phones are available for those who don't want to be bogged down with learning too many things and having to deal with too many features they probably won't ever use. Flip phones are easy to use, basic models but are good for making calls and even sending a few text messages. However, they don't usually come with any internet connectivity.

Smartphones, on the other hand, are a bit more complex and may take some time to learn but they allow you to do so many more things. From online shopping to video chatting to just playing games, there is so much more to do.
You can also learn how to use the smartphone to help manage the other smart devices you may have. All you really need to do is get used to a touchscreen and then you'll find it's easy to learn all the other useful functions.

Ensuring Safety

Another huge benefit of smartphones and technology for seniors is the safety factor that is involved. It keeps them connected to their support system and makes emergency calls easier to make. Location tracking devices are also available on most smartphone devices which are good for those with Alzheimer's or dementia. The GPS helps locate seniors if they are missing and can send alerts and notifications to their loved ones.
In addition to all these amazing benefits, smartphones and technology are also making it much more convenient for seniors to travel, get out of the house, and visit new places. They can have access to applications for travel and transportation which also further ensures their safety and security.
